Are you a superfan? MPL Sports & BCCI launch a new campaign to include fans in the unveiling of the new Team India T20I jersey

Reading Time: < 1 minute

With the World Cup just a little over a month away, there’s a new Official Team India T20I Jersey around the corner. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and MPL Sports, the official kit partner, announced a new campaign called #HarFanKiJersey ahead of the launch.

MPL Sports has launched a microsite called Har Fan Ki Jersey, where users can upload their story of what makes them a true blue cricket fan. By doing so, they will have the opportunity to be an integral part of the jersey unveiling. As the stories get populated on the site, a part of the jersey will be uncovered, giving fans a sneak peek into the much-awaited kit for this year.

The new jersey will replace the Billion Cheers jersey, launched during last year’s World Cup, for all T20 format games.

Besides getting a first look at the jersey, users can also get a chance to be crowned a “superfan”. Once fans upload their stories, they will get a unique referral code, which when used by their friends and followers, will earn them points and a spot on a leaderboard. Rewards include exclusive discounts; the brand will also run contests on social media giving users a chance to win match tickets as well as other money-can’t-buy experiences. Participation also guarantees a digital certificate of appreciation from MPL Sports and BCCI. The best superfan stories will be shared on the official MPL Sports social media pages as well.

The #HarFanKiJersey campaign aims to mobilize the billions of fans of the Indian cricket team, and give them a platform to share their passion for the game and the team.

Top five trends impacting the future of gaming in Asia are the Metaverse, Web 3, Cloud Gaming, Extended Reality, and Virtual Influencers

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Niko Partners, a market research and consulting firm covering video games, esports, and streaming in Asia and the Middle East, today announced the release of their report The Metaverse and Beyond: Future Trends of Gaming in Asia. Asia is at the forefront of gaming and is leading way in the implementation and adoption of emerging technology. This report covers the most important trends that are reshaping the way people experience games: the metaverse, web 3, cloud gaming, extended reality, and virtual influencers.

Key takeaways from the 83-slide report include:

  • The metaverse in gaming has shifted the concept of Games-as-a-Service to Games-as-a-Platform. In Asia, this trend was accelerated by the popularity of social gaming during the pandemic.

  • The building blocks of the metaverse include already existing technologies and new technologies covered in this report. We believe that the development of games with metaverse elements will be most profitable in the short term

  • Web 3 is shaping the way games will be made, networked, published, and how monetization is managed. However, most web 3 games to-date have only scratched the surface of emerging monetization models such as play-to-earn (P2E). Regulation of cryptocurrencies and NFTs also impacts how web 3 is applied to gaming

  • There is tremendous hype around Web 3 games, but challenges still remain for the technology, including solving for the sustainability of models such as play to earn

  • Cloud gaming has lots of room for growth in Asia as the network infrastructure improves and installed base of 5G phones rises. Cloud games require a stable internet connection, use a high amount of data, and may experience more input latency during gameplay in areas with poor infrastructure. Governments throughout Asia are collaborating with telecos to build and enhance the 5G infrastructure

  • Our research shows the addressable market for cloud gaming services in Asia will reach 500 million by 2025, with subscription services being the most popular. Additional growth will come from innovation within cloud gaming via cloud native games, MILEs, cloud game ads and trials

  • Extended Reality (XR) technology is still in its early stages in Asia, with Augmented Reality (AR) being the most developed for games and Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality technologies following suit.

  • Augmented Reality started to go mainstream in Asia via mobile devices and games like Pokemon Go. More recently we have seen growing interest in VR across the region. Our survey found that more than 40% of respondents in Japan, Korea, Singapore and Chinese Taipei are interested in purchasing a VR device

  • Virtual influencers reign in Asia, where they are utilized as idols, streamers, brand ambassadors, entertainers, and more. Japan is a major leader in the virtual influencers as they pertain to the games’ world

  • Virtual influencers are gaining traction in Asia, and we are seeing increased utilization of virtual human technology and AI to build fully digital celebrities. While often marketed as risk free, companies operating virtual influencers will still need to play a large role in managing brand identity to build a genuine connection with fans

“Many companies and investors say they are developing toward NFTs in games and blockchain games, or that their games embrace the metaverse,” said Lisa Hanson, founder and president of Niko Partners. “It is important to examine the actual and current stage of implementation of these critical themes in Asia and MENA as we assess they opportunities for growth and investment for the next few years. Our research helps define these key future trends as they exist in Asia today.”

Esports Integrated (ESI), an initiative to catalyse a vibrant, sustainable and inclusive ecosystem by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) today announced the start of Malaysia Esports League 2022 (MEL22). As part of KBS’s Strategic Development Plan for Esports Development, the second edition of Malaysia Esports League will be held from 12 September until 3 December 2022.

Offering a prize pool of RM299,500, MEL22 will be expanded to include 2 new game titles and expanded categories from 4 to 7, with the inclusion of a special people with disabilities (PWD) league. Following up from the success of Malaysia Esports League 2021 (MEL21), MEL22 aims to provide a more comprehensive and inclusive platform for Malaysian esports talents to compete and showcase their talents.

MEL22 will be divided into 3 series, namely MEL22 Regular Series which consists of MEL22 State Leagues and MEL22 Nationals featuring 3 game titles – Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), PlayerUnknown’s Battleground Mobile (PUBGM) and Garena Free Fire (FF); MEL22 Open Series featuring 3 game titles – Dota 2, FIFA23 and Valorant; and Para MEL22 (game title to be announced soon via ESI’s social media accounts).

For the MEL22 Regular Series, the aim is to provide a true platform for grassroots esports enthusiasts to compete at the state level (MEL22 State Leagues) and later to represent their states in the national playoffs (MEL22 Nationals). In partnership with Moonton, Tencent and Garena, the respective publishers for MLBB, PUBGM and FF, winners from the national playoffs will progress into ESI’s professional level tournament, Malaysia Esports Championship 2022/2023 (MEC 2022/2023) and later progresses into the publishers’ own professional circuit such as MLBB Pro League Malaysia (MPL), PUBGM National Championship (PMNC) and FF Malaysia/Cambodia/Philippines Majors (FF MCPS). MEL22 State Leagues will start from 12 – 29 September 2022 and will be conducted virtually, and MEL22 Nationals will start from 1 October – 2 November 2022, held physically at ESI Hub, Spacerubix Puchong.

For the MEL22 Open Series, it will be an open tournament for all players from various levels (amateur, semi professional and professional), whilst Para MEL22 is the continuation of ESI’s OKU-only tournament, giving opportunity for OKU esports enthusiasts. Both series will be held physically at ESI Hub as well.

“KBS would like to invite esports enthusiasts of various levels to participate in MEL22. Continuing the success of MEL21 last year where 50,000 individuals registered to participate, and close to 1.2 million viewerships, MEL22 is expected to draw large number of registrations and views; so register now before the slots are full.” said YB Dato’ Sri Ahmad Faizal bin Dato’ Azumu, Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“We are delighted to announce the expansion of Malaysia’s biggest grassroots esports tournament, MEL for this year. This allows for more enthusiasts, especially youths, to compete and venture into the local esports competitive circuits. With a clear progression from MEL to MEC and publishers’ own professional tournaments, we would like to ensure a clear path for any esports enthusiasts to compete and progress; from amateur state level, one is able to compete up to international level.” said Fadzli Rahim, the Vice President of Operations and Growth, ESI.

MEL22 is organised by ESI in collaboration with 16 state esports associations and registrations are currently open via www.esukan.gg. Matches will be live streamed via ESI and KBS’s Facebook pages.

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A couple of Singaporean professional esports players have created their own organisation, & with Avium’s endorsement, and will compete under the banner of Slate Esports in the upcoming MPL Singapore due to start in September 2022.

The team will be leveraging Avium’s ecosystem & representing the brand through the decentralised ownership model, by utilising the Avium Founders’ Pass. This means that Slates Esports is a part of Avium’s ecosystem, and will receive support from its community to help the  players establish themselves as an esports team.

“At Avium, our goal is always the same, ‘Enabling Passion; Building Dreams’. When Daryl, a Founders’ Pass holder, reached out to us to support him in building his own dream, we knew we had to support him. This is the beautiful thing about Web3, helping people grow,” mentioned Nathanael Lim, co-founder of Avium.
Holding an Avium Founders Pass grants access to an exclusive community building of the Avium brand together with the founding team. The formation of Slate Esports is a prime example of how Avium supports its community members.

The organisation is formed by SEA Games Bronze Medalist duo Akihiro ‘JPL’ Furusawa & Daryl ‘Youngin’ Ng after being released by EVOS Esports in late July. These players are household names in the gaming community. The majority of the Slate Esports roster was inherited from EVOS SG, who finished 4th place in the most recent World Championship series held in
Singapore in December 2021.

The team’s target is to replicate their success under their new banner. Daryl Ng has expressed his excitement in growing a new chapter in his life with Slate Esports as part of Avium’s ecosystem. Slate Esports is looking to qualify for the $USD 800,000 prize pool World Championship in Jakarta on January 2023.

Daryl Ng, the founder of Slate Esports, said: “Never in a thousand years I thought I would say that I own an esports organisation, yet here we are. Firstly, I have to thank Avium for believing in us to support and support us in our journey. We are extremely proud to represent the community and will aim to be the best.”

Avium is a Web3 media start focusing on building an entertainment & media network. Recently,
they secured a US$2M pre-seed round led by Saison Capital. It includes East Ventures, Mirana
Ventures, angel investors such as Ricky Ow (ex-Warner Media) and more.

ATLAS-IAC debuts its automated tools & next generation “no-risk” sportsbook at G2E Asia

Reading Time: 3 minutes

ATLAS-IAC, the leading sportsbook and PAM software developer, will make its debut at G2E Asia, the continent’s premier sports betting and igaming summit, next week at the exclusive Marina Bay Sands Singapore (24-26 August).

The company will take this timely opportunity to showcase its diverse, cutting-edge automated trading tools and fully automated CRM solution, which allows the complete management of customer marketing and communication activities in one place. Customers can now be grouped into profiled segments – based on site activity, betting behaviour, deposit regularity and a host of additional personal traits.

Get in touch to book a meeting to discuss the full platform, consider its “no-risk” sportsbook option, or simply stop by Stand B812, where delegates will be waiting to greet you or arrange an easy-to-follow demonstration.

ATLAS-IAC’s next-generation sportsbook can also now be integrated as an iFrame on a no-risk structure, running off unique pricing models – allowing users to enjoy sophisticated and reactive in-play odds up to the last second of a game, with competitive pricing on all sports. This service arrives in perfect time for this autumn’s relentless sporting schedule, including the forthcoming football World Cup.

ATLAS-IAC’s modern technology helps to overcome local regulatory challenges with a light physical deployment backed up by centralised control systems. The company has always placed a strong premium on social responsibility and its solution offers full workflow management across AML and customer interactions as well as flexible tools for self-exclusion, time-outs and self-imposed limits.

Among ATLAS’s assorted tailored solutions for Asian operators are localized sports betting products, coupled with data feed solutions and a full suite of casino and skill-based games.

Richard Thorp, Strategic Advisor to ATLAS-IAC and RPM Gaming Director, said: “G2E Asia 2022 brings together over 95% of all Asian operators and all major industry players to gain a deeper insight into the latest market trends and offer a wide array of networking opportunities. It’s the must-make marketplace for Asia’s flourishing sports betting and igaming sector, and I’m delighted to be back.

“Thanks to our progressive partnership with ATLAS-IAC, we now provide unrivalled customised platform solutions, industry-leading automation and world-class support. To learn more about ATLAS-IAC’s automation technology and the benefits of our platform, just drop us a line, or pop by Stand B812 where my team and I look forward to greeting you.

“And should any Asian operator or casino be looking to mitigate the potential risk of integrating a new sportsbook, our sportsbook solution will now uniquely underwrite all the trading downside for running its services as a statement of intent and the ability of its underlying platform to deliver in any Asian market.

“The idea behind it is mainly aimed at casino operators or other single product operators, especially ones that aren’t used to a sportsbook solution itself. For example, those who wouldn’t want to have a trading team; they might ostensibly baulk at the typical risks involved in running a sportsbook. Many people – based on previous roles I’ve had – often looked at sportsbooks as being a high-risk offering or volatile area to operate in. But our idea is, if you are a casino operator, we will integrate as an iframe into your platform – and we will underwrite all the risk. You literally don’t have to burn any fuel managing it, nor worrying about it. We’ll take care of everything. And if there is any downside, as I say, we’ll underwrite that.”

Sergei Efimenko, CEO of ATLAS-IAC, added: “G2E Asia is a must-attend event, and there’s a real momentum behind this year’s renewal in Singapore, especially after all the challenges of the pandemic. It’s fantastic to be back together en masse. I’m thoroughly impressed with the quality, quantity and diversity of the delegates on site, so I can’t wait to catch up with old and new friends alike.

“As for our leading sportsbook platform, we’re supremely confident in the automation, and we know how to manage diverse customer bases, premised on their history and the patterns of behaviour. So, whatever previous concerns may’ve been around operating a sportsbook (e.g. betting just before an event starts, betting at a time where there potentially is an unreliable feed) we have the tools to spot that and correct for it. As a result, for us, underwriting wasn’t a big challenge, and we are willing to do that on a competitive revenue-share model for new partners.

“The ATLAS-IAC team will be on Stand B812 throughout the week.”

The bronze at the CEC 2022 opens up new horizons for Indian esports internationally

Reading Time: 3 minutes

India’s DOTA 2 esports team’s victory at the CEC 2022 is a significant milestone in the history of the Indian esports and gaming ecosystem. It will open up new horizons for aspiring athletes who dream to compete in international tournaments in the future, thereby encouraging young gamers to pursue full-time careers as athletes. The win will open floodgates for subsequent industries to rise, birthing new-gen pro-gamers, careers, tournaments, brand associations and sponsorship opportunities among others. As the country celebrates 75 years of Independence, this victory marks a historical achievement for India in the international gaming arena.

The Indian DOTA 2 esports team displayed a smacking performance and won the bronze at the inaugural Commonwealth Esports Championships 2022 (CEC) held recently in Birmingham, England. The winners of the Indian DOTA 2 team, consisting of Moin Ejaz (captain), Ketan Goyal, Abhishek Yadav, Shubhnam Goli, and Vishal Vernekar, defeated New Zealand by 2-0 in an unsurpassed format.

Up until 2010, esports as a concept was relatively obscure in India and rather non-existent, with low public awareness, lack of infrastructure, and little involvement in the development of this sector. However, 2010 saw an enormous surge in the user base due to the popularity of smartphones, affordable high-speed internet, and notable investments in the space.

According to a report by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and EY India, the Indian esports industry rose to INR 3 billion in FY2021 and is expected to reach INR 11 billion by FY2025. This only confirms that the growth opportunity for esports in India is exponential and expansive.

Bharat Patel, Co-Founder, and Director, of Yudiz Solutions Limited, said, “A big congratulations to team India for claiming the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Esports Championship for DOTA 2. A remarkable achievement, considering the countless scrims, lengthy LAN games, and complex strategies involved.” With reference to esports athletes, he further shares, “the intelligence, mettle, and enthusiasm DOTA players display is utterly amazing. This win will boost the morale of the younger generation to become more active participants, encouraging the industry and the gaming community going forward.”

Anurag Khurana who is the CEO & Founder of Penta Esports said, “Congratulations to team India on winning the bronze medal at CEC for DOTA 2. This win will surely bring esports more recognition in India and inspire more aspiring esports athletes at the grassroots level in the country.”

Talking about the win Abhishek Aggarwal, Co-Founder, and CEO, of Trinity Gaming India, said, “These are exciting times for the esports industry and a very proud moment for the country and the gaming community. This win by the DOTA 2 team at the Commonwealth Esports Championship has earned a spot for India on the global gaming map and the future of esports looks very bright. This will encourage a new breed of gamers to build their careers leading to a larger pool of talent in the country. This is also an opportunity for brands to step forward in supporting the industry and encouraging the new athletes who aspire to have a career in this arena. We, as industry players, are confident that the government will support this form of the sport by providing adequate support to the esports athletes.”

The Indian esports ecosystem witnessed its first international representation (demonstration) at the Asian Games in 2018. Tirth Mehta, who won a bronze at the time, drew the attention of many developers and investors and their interest in Indian esports grew. Coverage and promotional campaigns on various online social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram increased public awareness and further stimulated the popularity of esports in India.

As esports is declared as a medal event at the next Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, India’s performance and win at  CEC 2022 have upped the ante for Indian esports in the international arena.

BWF, together with major sponsor M88 Mansion, will be holding the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2022 in Japan on August 22-28.

This is the first time the east Asian country will host the competition, and the fifth Asian nation to do so. Matches will be played at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

Over 300 competitors from more than 40 countries will slug it out to emerge as the best in five events, with the host and last year’s overall winner taking the lead.

Reigning champions for each category are: Loh Kean Yew of Singapore (men’s singles), Yamaguchi Akane of Japan (women’s singles), Hoki Takurō and Kobayashi Yūgo of Japan (men’s doubles), Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan of China (women’s doubles), as well as Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand (mixed doubles).

The draw was held on August 10 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, producing interesting brackets.

Men’s singles world number one Viktor Axelsen is set on a collision course with fellow Dane Rasmus Gemke in the quarter-finals, while Indonesians Jonatan Christie and Anthony Ginting are also both on the top half of the bracket and could possibly meet in the semis.

Over in women’s singles, top seed Yamaguchi and 14th-ranked Takahashi Sayaka can tentatively clash on the third round, with An Se-young of South Korea and PV Sindhu of India as probable semi-final round opponents.

Hoki and Kobayashi journey back to the top have them starting in the bottom half of the bracket, with the more thrilling matchups found in the upper half of the draw. Chen and Jia also averted some early tough challenges in their section.

Finally, Puavaranukroh and Taerattanachai could feasibly contend against two Japanese pairs en route to the final.

The BWF World Championships follow the single elimination knockout format.

As part of the partnership between M88 Mansion and BWF, updates and highlights will be provided on the M88 Mansion-BWF website and social media accounts before, during, and after the event. A top BWF player will also be featured and interviewed.

First organized in 1977, the tourney has been held annually, except for Summer Olympic years, since 2005. It was last staged in 2021 in Huelva, Spain.
