The tournament will feature some of the world’s best up and coming amateur esports players across FIFA titles, as well as celebrities and influencers globally. The amateur players will have the opportunity to compete against one another for a cash prize of $500USD. Those who conquer the tournament will go up against eLaLiga Santander’s special celebrity guest for the chance to win an additional $500USD if they come out on top.

Tournaments will take place across Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, South Korea, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, Russia, Australia, Japan and Indonesia between December 2021 and May 2022, with the face-to-face tournament in China happening March 19th-20th, followed by the United States tournament on June 20th.

ELaLiga Santander is the esports branch of Spanish football’s top division LaLiga, creating a space where the passion of the football community can combine with the opportunities of esports. Players are able to represent participating football clubs from LaLiga, as they compete across FIFA titles from EA Sports.

Galaxy Racer (GXR) was founded in 2019 and is one of the fastest-growing esports, gaming and lifestyle organizations in the world, with our competitive esports division, Nigma Galaxy having an impressive roster of twelve esports teams in Dota 2, League of Legends, CS:GO, Fortnite, Valorant, PUBG Mobile, BGMI and Free Fire.

The eLaLiga “Beat the Best” tournament follows after the formation of a three-year partnership between Galaxy Racer and LaLiga in August of 2021, developed with the intentions to create a new original series, and to produce exclusive content featuring LaLiga’s top professional division football players.

Director of Digital Strategy at LaLiga, Alfredo Bermejo, comments: “The eLaLiga Fan Cup was the first project to take the good work developed at national level beyond our borders. Although we had to make changes to the project due to the pandemic, we were able to complete the tournaments in all proposed countries and lay the foundations of our international strategy, which will this year continue with two very ambitious projects: ‘Beat the Best’ and ‘Challenges’ in China and the United States,”

Galaxy Racer CEO, Paul Roy, comments: “We are excited to offer this unique opportunity to celebrate amateur esports talent in partnership with eLaLiga Santander. These tournaments  help us to create experiences that our global fan base can enjoy and participate in. We are looking forward to seeing the amateur’s blow us away with their talent!”

The Global Esports Federation turns two, and what an epic ride it has been

Reading Time: 4 minutes

When the Global Esports Federation (GEF) was launched in 2019, one of its goals was to marry the fast-growing esports world with values often tied to traditional sport.

Esports was already the fastest growing sport in 2019, with revenue over US$1 billion and a worldwide reach of close to 500 million. With its massive reach and widespread appeal among the young, esports is seen as a gateway to connecting with the youth of the world.

What then, could a new esports organization bring? As it turns out, plenty.

For starters, the GEF celebrates its second anniversary just as the inaugural edition of the Global Esports Games (GEG), its flagship event, prepares for a highly-anticipated opening in Singapore.

The GEF’s journey over the past two years has also seen it expand the reach of esports globally while championing causes often overlooked by the larger esports world.

Promoting diversity

Female representation has long been an issue in esports. The lack of opportunities for women to play at major events and an overwhelmingly male-dominated executive workforce both at esports global companies and international bodies often meant that the interest of women in esports was often overlooked.

But the GEF made sure to address this.

For its inaugural edition of the GEG, the GEF set the tone of its flagship event by ensuring that it had a women’s category. Teams Paraguay, Mongolia and Great Britain emerged through regional qualifiers to earn the right to battle it out for Dota 2 supremacy alongside hosts Singapore. GEG 2021 will also be the first major international tournament to feature an all-women Dota 2 category.

In the boardroom, the GEF has also led the way. In two years, it has increased women representation at the GEF, edging toward 40%.

Said Chris Chan, president of the GEF: “The GEF was founded on the principle that everyone in the gaming world should be considered equals and it is why we have always pushed for an inclusive esports and youth culture.

“The beauty of esports is that color, gender, race and how affluent someone is don’t factor in. When you interact virtually, it doesn’t matter what your background is.

“And that is the culture we want to foster with our #worldconnected movement. Esports is universal, and it should be something everyone can experience and enjoy.”

Championing inclusivity

Central to fostering diversity is the need to be more inclusive. And that is where the GEF has also made significant inroads, especially with promoting esports and events in the Middle East.

While esports had made tremendous strides in the dominant markets of Europe, North America and Asia, elite-level, international events are still in its infancy in the Arab world.

The GEF brought two events to the Middle East in its inaugural Global Esports Tour, which opened in Los Angeles in September 2021, before moving to Riyadh in October and Dubai in November.

Aptly, the United Arab Emirates became the 100th Member Federation to join the GEF in August 2021. To date, the GEF has 105 Member Federations.

For the 18-19 December GEG world finals, which will feature over 100 esports athletes from over 40 countries, the GEF has taken the extra step of assembling a Team #worldconnected — which brings athletes of different backgrounds, including those who represent the refugee community, people with disabilities, wounded servicemen and women, and other underserved communities.

Among the athletes in Team #worldconnected is Roby Hormis, a former refugee from Iraq who is now based in the Netherlands. He will compete in eFootball alongside Brazil-born Yuri “Yuri_FPOLIS” Andrade, who now resides in the United States.

And for the pair, initiatives like Team #worldconnected are what makes the GEF a refreshing addition to the global esports ecosystem.

Said Yuri_FPOLIS: “For me, just inviting people from all around the world, from different backgrounds, is a big step to making esports something the whole world can enjoy. It’s awesome and that is something amazing that the GEF is doing.”

Inclusivity is, however, not confined to the athletes.

As part of the Singapore 2021 GEG, GEFCon will bring together thought leaders in esports, sports, technology, and entertainment to explore topical issues facing the industry such as the role of fintech in esports, the future of entertainment, and how organizations are moving from sponsorship to partnership.

There is also the GEFestival, a two-week virtual celebration of esports in the build-up to GEG 2021. It features community gaming, music and entertainment for the gaming communities of the world.

As with any organization, the formative years are crucial. It is where one builds stability and strong roots to form a firm foundation for growth. With a strong base, already established in its first two years, the global esports community can look to many more initiatives that will excite and positively impact esports.

Among the initiatives on the horizon are the expanding of the GEF’s presence in the metaverse with its partnership with 888 The New World, and an exciting line-up of Global Esports Tour and GEG 2022 as the flagship event moves to Istanbul, Turkey.

Said GEF CEO Paul J. Foster: “Just like the dynamic industry that is esports, the GEF also needs to constantly evolve and innovate to cater to an ever-changing target audience and market.

“But as we look to strengthen and add to the many initiatives and partnerships we had built in our first two years, our ethos of bringing inclusivity and celebrating diversity in esports will always remain central to what we do.”

MAD Lions partnering with Streamcoi to manage professional players live streams

Reading Time: 2 minutes

MAD Lions, a leading esports organisation, and Streamcoi, a platform automating stream management, officially announced their partnership. Streamcoi will enhance the team’s potential for displaying and managing content across pro-player’s streams.

The esports scene is one of the most robust, direct and engaging channels for reaching the younger generation. With more time spent watching live streams than television, Generation Z is one of the hardest groups to reach, even for leading brands. As a result, an increasing number of brands turn to esports to tap into youth culture. The teams use live streaming to communicate with fans, build brand awareness, sell merchandise or promote events.

These needs cannot be satisfied using manual stream management. Lack of tools helping to manage a growing portfolio of partnerships hinders the potential of live streaming as a source of revenue.

Partnership with Streamcoi enables MAD Lions to

Automate the stream management process.
Cutting the time needed to set up, modification and summarising campaigns from many streams at the same time.
Facilitate access to sponsored content, team assets, displays, artworks, clips and other elements
gives access to easily adjustable overlays in real-time
Send instant messages across multiple streams at once to effectively communicate with team’s community.
Access the statistics of each channel. This gives detailed insight in the performance and reception of any message or event MAD Lions presents on its live streams.
Manage the streams from a single dashboard.
Streamcoi allows MAD Lions to focus on the best performance and entertaining content, automating campaign set up.

“Our partnership with Streamcoi and the use of their platform enables our players and influencers to focus exclusively on delivering their best performance and providing entertaining content to our fans,” said Jorge Schnura, Vice-President of Strategy, OverActive Media. “It also gives us the ability to access detailed data and insights, allowing us to continuously evolve how we’re engaging with our community to serve up the best experience possible.”

“Players competing at the highest level rarely find time for streams, but when they do it’s a great opportunity to connect with fans in a break from official matches. It’s especially important that they don’t have to deal with overlays or other assets at such times,” said Jakub Janaszek, Product Lead, Streamcoi. “I am very proud that Streamcoi can help an organization as important as MAD Lions support their players and influencers while delivering effective action for their sponsors.”

Young entrepreneurs booming business moves into gaming and esports

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A young entrepreneur in the UK who set up his business at the age of just 17 with £300, has moved into the gaming and esports industry due to huge consumer demand pressures.

George Greenhill, Founder of Protein Package, established the healthy snack brand business in 2017 from his parents’ home in Wolverhampton whilst he was still at secondary school.

The business provides a ‘pick and mix’ style approach to ordering a variety of nutritional supplements and snacks online which are sourced from all over the world. The company really took off in 2020 owing to an increase in online consumer habits during the pandemic.

This recent growth has resulted in gamers and esports fans requesting that Protein Package expands into the gaming supplementation space to accompany their wide range of sports supplements and ‘better for you’ snacking options.

In November 2021, Protein Package decided to answer consumer calls and make the move, commenting on the expansion into the gaming sector, George said: “We’re very excited to be entering this ever-expanding market, especially one with innovative brands popping up all of the time. We made the progression from selling only high protein products to general healthy snacks back in 2019 and felt now was the right time to dive into the gaming and esports supplement market.

We’ve been getting requests daily to help improve the range of gaming supplements in the country and it’s a community I have always had close ties with. After looking into the UK market, we felt it has been neglected and left behind due to the lack of top brand availability such as GFUEL, CTRL and Razorwire when compared to America and Canada. At Protein Package, we want to change that so gamers don’t have to wait for weeks to receive international shipments which can face lengthy delivery and expensive unexpected customs charges.”

Sophie Edwards, Brand Manager at Protein Package said: “We’ve been working closely with various companies around the world to import all the best gaming supplements into the UK and offer the largest range. Many of the products have energy-boosting properties like the sport-focused supplements we currently stock so believe many of our existing customers will benefit from being able to try these brands out as a pre-workout.”

As of last week, Protein Package already has GFUEL Energy listed on their website that includes all the bestselling flavours and the popular collaboration flavours with industry heavyweights KSI and PewDiePie. GFUEL’s other products such as Energy Crystals, Ready-To-Drink Cans and Hydration Formulas will be imported and introduced online in the coming days.

George and Protein Package are aiming to have several other brands added to the store before the start of the New Year and prioritise offering the most competitive prices with fast UK delivery.
