IBIA and H2 Gambling Capital extend betting market data partnership

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and H2 Gambling Capital (H2), the leading bodies globally on betting integrity and gambling market data, have extended their partnership agreement. That arrangement maintains H2 as the official betting market data partner of the integrity association and includes access to H2’s extensive market database of circa 2 million data points covering 160+ gambling jurisdictions in over 100 countries. H2 data has been employed in IBIA responses to regulatory consultations and wider market activities, notably the Optimum Betting Market Study published in June 2021.

Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, said: “H2’s market leading and globally recognised dataset has been an important component of our policy deliberations and has underpinned our key market integrity and regulatory position. That data has been critical in advancing evidence-based proposals with a range of stakeholders around the world. IBIA therefore welcomes a continuation of our partnership, which comes at an important point in the development of regulated betting globally.”

David Henwood, Director at H2 Gambling Capital, said: “IBIA is at the forefront of the modernisation of the global betting industry and we are proud to be associated with the association which represents nearly 100 international betting brands. Our joint work on optimum market regulation has proved ground-breaking and the further professionalisation of the sector will very much require accurate market data and analysis at its heart, so we are delighted to be co-partners with IBIA in this space.”

The agreement comes as IBIA continues to expand its membership base and sphere of operation, having recently launched in North America, and where a number of US states and the Canadian province of Ontario have moved to require sports betting operators to be part of an integrity monitoring body. This mirrors a similar requirement in the recently opened online gambling market in the Netherlands, where the majority of online betting operators are now members of IBIA.

The International Betting Integrity Association is the leading global voice on integrity for the licensed betting industry. It is run by operators for operators, protecting its members from corruption through collective action. Its monitoring and alert platform is a highly effective anti-corruption tool that detects and reports suspicious activity on its members’ betting markets. The association has longstanding information sharing partnerships with leading sports and gambling regulators to utilise its data and prosecute corruption. It represents the sector at high-level policy discussion forums such as the IOC, UN, Council of Europe and European Commission.

Sportradar Integrity Services Publishes its New Report “Betting Corruption and Match-fixing in 2021”

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The detection of a record number of suspicious matches exposes the serious, ongoing threat match-fixing presents to the integrity of global sport at all levels as the amount of money bet on sports reached record heights in 2021. This is a key finding of a new report, “Betting Corruption and Match-fixing in 2021”, published by Sportradar Integrity Services, a global supplier of sports integrity solutions and a division of Sportradar, a leading global sports technology company.

Sportradar’s bet-monitoring service, the Universal Fraud Detection System (UFDS), uncovered suspicious activity in 903 matches last year, across 10 sports and in 76 countries worldwide. It is the highest number of suspicious matches recorded in Sportradar Integrity Services’ 17-year history — a 2.4% increase on the previous high of 882 suspicious matches recorded in 2019.

The increase in suspicious activity arose alongside record levels of global sports betting turnover, which Sportradar now estimates at more than €1.45 trillion. According to the report, in 2021 approximately €165 million was generated in match-fixing betting profit. Organised crime syndicates are funded by revenue generated from betting fraud, which can in turn finance other illicit activities. The overall sum generated through betting corruption last year may even be greater, as this figure does not include any other potential financial schemes such as money laundering.

While the number of suspicious matches detected in 2021 reached a record high, Sportradar underscored its commitment to protecting the integrity of global sport by working with its partners to support 65 sanctions: 46 sporting sanctions, 15 criminal sanctions and four sanctions that were both sporting and criminal. These were delivered in 11 countries across football and tennis, with lifetime bans handed down to eight athletes.

“There is no easy short-term solution to the match-fixing issue, and we’re likely to see similar numbers of suspicious matches in 2022, if not more. As the market has developed, so the threat of match fixing has evolved. Now, would-be corruptors take an increasingly direct approach to match-fixing and betting corruption, with athletes messaged directly via social-media platforms,” Andreas Krannich, Managing Director at Sportradar Integrity Services, said.

“We can take what we observed in 2021 and ask ourselves as fans of sport, what lessons can we learn? At Sportradar, we believe in adopting a progressive approach to integrity protection, through bet monitoring and intelligence gathering. This has been proven to deliver sanctions against those involved in match-fixing. Preventative measures, such as educating athletes and stakeholders, are also crucially important in the long-term fight against match-fixing,” Andreas Krannich added.

Sergio Aguero: The history of the FA Cup meant it was always a special competition to play in

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Stake’s global representative, Sergio Aguero, reveals his memories of playing in the FA Cup, why it was a special competition for him to win, how Pep Guardiola will keep his players motivated against Peterborough in their fifth round tie, and what this side could achieve this season.

The FA Cup has an amazing history and I am proud to have won the competition

The FA Cup was always one of my favourite competitions to play in because of its history and because of the many famous players and teams to have won it.

When I was living in Spain and here in Argentina, everyone knew about the competition and its history.

We came so close to winning the FA Cup in 2013 but were beaten by Wigan in the final. It was hard for us because we had a very good team, Carlos Tevez, Yaya Toure, David Silva, Vincent Kompany and Pablo Zabaleta all started that game.

But we were all very new to the club and it was only the start of our journey. I think we did okay in the end!

We were back at Wembley for my second FA Cup final in 2019 and that day went much better for us when we beat Watford.

We were so happy to win it and to be a part of FA Cup history was a very proud moment for me.

The tradition of the FA Cup is one of my favourite things about the competition, it was fun to meet Prince William to get my medal after the game and the celebrations with the fans afterwards was so special.

Everyone says that the FA Cup is magical and it is true, it was always really fun to play in and you felt proud to represent your team in the competition.

The day we played in the FA Cup was

always special because there was so much excitement in the team and the fans were always extra happy to see us play well.

Playing teams in lower divisions in the FA Cup is harder than you think, so Pep will have the City players focused ahead of the Peterborough match

Not many people know how hard it is to play in the FA Cup. In England, you play a lot of matches and a lot of competitions, but as a player, it’s really exciting because you have the chance to try and win lots of different competitions, and winning finals is something that you are always proud of as a footballer, which means every game is important.

To get to the final you have to play against lots of different teams and some new ones that you might not have ever played against before. Playing against new teams and new players and at new stadiums is always hard because you don’t know 100% what you’re going to be playing against. We watch the teams in the Premier League and Champions League a lot and we all have friends and international teammates that play for them, but when you draw a team in the FA Cup that you don’t regularly get to play against or know too much about, it’s always a difficult experience.

When we played against a new team or a side in a different division, we were always expected to win, but it’s not as easy as that. Every manager always made sure the preparation for an FA Cup game was exactly the same. The training was the same, we worked hard on our jobs for the match and we went into the game knowing what we had to do, it made no difference if it was the final or first round.

This is exactly what Pep Guardiola will be doing with the team this week. Pep is a winner and he hates to lose, you don’t win the number of trophies he has without this attitude. He will be making sure the Manchester City players are ready for the game against Peterborough in the same way as if it was any other match.

There’s added pressure on Manchester City to win in the FA Cup and Peterborough will look to familiar tactics to beat them

When you are the team in a higher league and you have to travel to a team in a league below you it is difficult because the crowd are always so excited that their team might cause an upset and get to beat a Premier League team! When you get to the ground you are quickly aware that everyone really wants you to lose – the fans let you know when you arrive. It’s not just the

home crowd that are extra excited to see you lose, but it is everyone watching at home also, we know this and try not to think about it and focus on our job for the day.

We played against Wigan, again, in 2018 in the Cup at their stadium and it was one of the hardest matches. They defended so well and frustrated us, we had all of the possession and so many chances, but they scored late and knocked us out, that’s how it is in knockout football. If Peterborough think that they can win then they should watch that game and do the same as Wigan did.

Peterborough will be tough for Manchester City because the team has just travelled to Portugal in the Champions League, had a tough game against Tottenham, then they’ll play away in the Premier League threes days before the match and then they have to play Manchester United after the FA Cup game, but the team has so many good players in every position and everyone is used to this way of playing now.

Manchester City are hungry to win every competition

At Manchester City, we wanted to win everything, every match and every trophy, and that will always be the case at the club now. I think Manchester City are in a great place to win the Premier League again, they also have a good chance in the FA Cup and in the Champions League too, but this might be competitive, but I think it is possible that they win all three. Winning a treble like this would be a huge achievement and they have a team and manager that can do it this season.

a-solid-and-stable-foundation

A solid and stable foundation

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Andrei Beu, Commercial Director at Gamingtec, says platform stability is the most critical factor for online sportsbook operators seeking to drive acquisition and retention during the next 12 months of major sporting events

The next 12 months will witness some of the biggest sporting – and betting events – in the world. From Winter Olympics to the Super Bowl via the World Cup, there will be plenty of action above and beyond the standard sports leagues and tournaments that run each year.

This presents a huge opportunity for online sportsbook operators to acquire new customers and to also drive additional value out of those already engaged with their brand or brands.

To leverage this, many operators will focus their attention on multi-million-dollar marketing campaigns combined with frankly insane bonusing. This is often a given around such events, but this spending will be for nothing if operators do not get the basics right.

The foundation of this is of course the platform and tech stack, which must be stable, safe and secure. If it is not and players receive a bad experience, they will simply wager with a rival.

I would argue that absolutely the most important factor is platform stability. If a sportsbook is not stable then it will not be able to handle the huge surge in betting activity – more than half of the American population is expected to bet on the Super Bowl this year, for example.

Defining platform stability:

But what exactly do we mean by platform stability? At Gamingtec, we define platform stability as having all functionality and features working properly at all times. This ensures that players can access the sportsbook and use it as they would expect to.

Our aim is to deliver 99.5% uptime as we believe that is achievable with the current technologies that we work with and the number of third parties that plug into our platform.

Of course, we – and other technology providers – must deliver this level of stability and uptime at all times and in particular during big sporting events when the number of users accessing the sportsbook and the volume of bets is peaking.

This is no mean feat especially when a platform has any number of third parties that plug into it. This can be further hampered by legacy technology, and this is why some operators and providers are forever trying to strike the right balance between functionality and technology debt.

Casino is where the real volume is at:

A real pain point for sportsbook operators can occur when they branch out into the online casino sector. While there are many reasons to do this – engage new players, cross-sell to current bettors, etc – this can put tremendous strain on a platform.

While a big sporting event can result in millions of bets being placed over a short period of time, this is almost insignificant when you consider the number of casino transactions that take place on any given day of the week.

This is why having a strong technical foundation and platform is key for all operators at all times and not only during major sports events.

Technical debt is the greatest threat to stability:

When it comes down to it, technical debt is the greatest threat to platform stability and that is why operators must keep investing in their technology or work with a third-party platform provider that does. This is a major undertaking regardless of the approach used.

This means developing new technologies all of the time in order to remedy the flaws and glitches and to also improve speed and tenacity. But it is important to achieve architectural balance so that new and old can still work together while also being reliable and stable.

For those running a proprietary platform, this requires a small army of developers and engineers and for those white labelling platforms, it means working with the right partner from the get-go.

Whether looking to drive acquisition during a major sports event or simply delivering the best experience possible to players, platform stability must be the foundation of any online sportsbook or online casino.

If it is not, all of the resources and money invested in acquisition, retention, bonusing, payments, customer support, etc can be for nothing.

Just think about it – if you were to try to sign into a sportsbook and the log-in page kept crashing, what would you do? If you are anything like myself, you would walk away from that book and through the doors of one of its many rivals.

SOFTSWISS Sportsbook Launches New Freebet Version – Freebet Booster

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The SOFTSWISS Sportsbook is upgrading its online betting solution with the launch of an updated Freebet bonus feature – Freebet Booster. The new functionality is part of the Sportsbook’s strategy to gamify the gambling process and player experience. The expanded bonus functionality will help operators offer more attractive terms to players, which will increase their loyalty and engagement.

The new Freebet Booster feature will complement the lineup of existing player rewards. At the moment it includes three types of Freebets (No Risk, AllWin and OnlyWin), Comboboost, and the sport betting platform’s recent novelty – Hunting bonus.

The principle behind Freebet Booster is to multiply the standard Freebet bonuses that can be assigned to players. The Freebet Booster will be given to the user at the same time as a standard freebet. The player will need to activate the Freebet Booster (clicking on it) in order to take advantage of the bonus. The bettor will then be able to get from 1 to 5 additional Freebets identical in value to the ‘boosted’ freebets.

An operator determines the number of freebet bonuses a player receives after activating the Freebet Booster. The SOFTSWISS Sportsbook plans to extend the Booster model to other available bonuses at a later date.

The SOFTSWISS Sportsbook is a reliable sports betting solution which allows for the running of a successful sports betting website. Platform clients have access to data from the leading provider of live odds for eSports, Oddin.gg, and the leading sports odds feed supplier, Betradar. In addition to an extensive set of bonus tools, which now includes three types of bonuses, the Sportsbook offers its clients flexibility in managing sports betting bonuses and promotions, as well as:

  • 22,000+ live events monthly
  • 180+ sports on 1,200+ markets
  • Advanced player segmentation
  • eSports and premium сricket odds

“The SOFTSWISS Sportsbook has a number of advantages as a flexible online sports betting solution for both operators and players. We are constantly working to develop our product to reflect the latest requirements of the iGaming industry. Therefore, the launch of the new bonus will be great news for all those who would like to bring gamification elements to their betting sites. Freebet Booster will be appreciated by those players who value interactive and dynamic gameplay. And that is certainly the majority of casino and betting site visitors”, commented Alexander Kamenetskyi, Product Owner at SOFTSWISS Sportsbook.

softswiss-sportsbook:-2021-recap

SOFTSWISS Sportsbook: 2021 Recap

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The SOFTSWISS Sportsbook is pleased to share insights and results of the past year. The online sports betting platform was launched by SOFTSWISS at the end of 2020 and has gained traction in its first year of operating performance.

According to the Sportsbook statistics, men are the top users of the platform. Men account for 97% of the sum of all bets, while women only account for 3%. The situation is similar with the number of bets made, or Bet Count. In 2021 men made 94% of of all bets recorded in the SOFTSWISS Sportsbook, while women only made around 6%.

“Our product confirms the prevailing theiry that the sports audience is predominantly male. This pattern is easy to interpret and culturally related to spending time together watching sporting events, which is less characteristic of the female segment of gamblers. Men are more often interested in sports and consequently more likely to become betting site visitors,” commented Alexander Kamenetskyi, Product Owner at SOFTSWISS Sportsbook.

The analysis of the players age revealed that the users aged 41 to 50 years old provide the biggest contribution. More than 55% of Total Bet Sum is generated by this player group. Surprisingly, however, middle-aged players (31-40 years old) are the ones who make the most bets: they account for 37% of the Total Count of bets.

In 2021, people were more likely to use mobile phones to place bets – these made up 65.5% of all bets. However, when it comes to the Bet Sum, the picture changes dramatically. Players spent the most money from desktop devices (62.6% of Total Bets Sum). Tablets prove to be the least popular betting devices.

“Desktop devices tend to be an important tool for professional and VIP players, who use multiple monitors at once to simultaneously study statistics and analyse data in parallel with the game. It is the most advanced way to track changes in real time,” said Alexander Kamenetskyi, Product Owner at SOFTSWISS Sportsbook.

The most popular sports by Bet Sum in 2021:

  1. Soccer 38.14%
  2. Basketball 22.62%
  3. Tennis 16.11%
  4. Ice Hockey 9.01%
  5. American Football 8.95%
  6. Volleyball 5.17%

The top tournaments are as follows:

  1. NBA 28.32%
  2. NFL 18.13%
  3. Premier League 16.78%
  4. Serie A 13.35%
  5. La Liga 12.28%
  6. NHL 11.13%

“Football is the king of betting, as our statistics once again prove. Basketball and tennis, as usual, share second place depending on how well represented they are in client projects given the region of operation. The popularity of each particular sport affects the leading tournaments accordingly,” added Alexander Kamenetskyi, Product Owner at SOFTSWISS Sportsbook.

The most popular cryptocurrencies in sports betting turned out to be:

  • Bitcoin 54.73%
  • Litecoin 44.22%
  • Ethereum 1.05%

An important achievement for the Sportsbook team has been the partnership with one of the leading providers of live odds for eSports, Oddin.gg. The new partnership has enabled Sportsbook to expand its offering with live streaming, multiple live markets and a wide range of eSport tournaments such as Counter-Strike, League of Legends, and Dota 2.

In addition, the SOFTSWISS Sportsbook, together with N1 Partners Group, launched its first project on the Nigerian market under a local licence, which SOFTSWISS was granted in February 2021. N1Bet.ng was the first betting project launched by the Sportsbook Team on the African continent.

In terms of functional enhancements, the Sportsbook has significantly expanded the list of bonus offers available. In 2021, the team launched two new types of bonuses at once: Hunting and Freebets. The latest includes No Risk, AllWin and OnlyWin.

“All of the enhancements as part the Sportsbook’s development in 2021 were aimed at exploring new markets, expanding the gambling offering and attracting players. The partnership with new odds provider Oddin.gg will help attract a younger audience who are keen on eSports. The launch of new bonuses, in turn, was a great tool to build and strengthen the loyalty of existing players. Our clients have already been able to appreciate new Sportsbook features and put them into action. Despite last year’s achievements, our team has even more ambitious plans ahead,” concluded Alexander Kamenetskyi, Product Owner at SOFTSWISS Sportsbook.
