SatSure enters the US Market through acquisition of Philadelphia-based Geospatial services company

SatSure, a deep tech startup working at the intersection of spacetech, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Software as a Service (SaaS) to drive decision intelligence, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Philadelphia-based Old City Innovations (formerly Geospoc LLC, USA) in a cash plus stock deal, marking its entry into the U.S. market.

Old City Innovations (OCI) was founded in 2014, and counts Syngenta, DMI, and Applied Residential among its key customers. Headed by Archie Menezes and Cara Kolson, OCI has been providing geospatial services in the domains of mortgage, agriculture, insurance, and drone markets in the U.S. Post the acquisition, the key management personnel of OCI will be joining SatSure, which will take over the customers contracts and leverage OCI’s expertise to expand its geospatial analytics business footprint in the U.S. market.

“The U.S. is undoubtedly the largest market for solutions with Earth observation (EO) data at its core, and hence having our presence there is the next step in our plans to become a global force in the space industry, as a full stack EO company with a keen focus on customer’s decision intelligence. The team at OCI has deep experience in financial and technology services, and we are excited to work jointly towards creating value in the overall NAM market,” said Prateep Basu, founder and CEO of SatSure.

Archie Menezes, President of OCI added, “SatSure’s product offerings are niche, differentiated, and very relevant for the NAM markets. Hence, joining forces to tap into the vast potential of the geospatial analytics space was the natural step forward for us. We will continue servicing our existing customers, while expanding the footprint of our business with the diverse offerings that SatSure has, especially at the intersection of the infrastructure and climate resilience sectors.”

This marks the second acquisition deal by SatSure in 2022, first one being of Indore-based farm management SaaS tool CropTrails. In addition to our Agri suite of solutions, the Non-Agri solutions line SatSure Skies, which caters to users in the mortgage, utilities, and energy sectors provides us with a tremendous opportunity to expand our products / services in new market segments. SatSure will continue growing both organically and inorganically to achieve its strategic goals, and diversifying its product geography mix to prepare for exponential growth through backward integration as its high resolution and daily revisit providing satellite fleet, which will be launched in 2024.

SatSure launches Farm-level Soil Moisture & India Cropland Data using Satellite Imagery and Artificial Intelligence

India is the 2nd largest agricultural producer, but still, compared with developed countries like China and the USA, it lags in the quantity of crops produced per unit of land. Such a yield gap exists in India because of many factors such as decreasing farming landholdings, dependence on the increasingly erratic monsoon, high diversity in agro-climatic conditions, timely and affordable access to credit and farm inputs. Among the many missing links in improving agriculture productivity, soil moisture is one of the more valuable information for the entire agriculture sector. Its use cases span drought monitoring, water resource management, irrigation scheduling, and sowing advisories. It is a critical variable at the macro and micro-level for policymakers, crop insurers, commodity traders, and agriculture input companies.

SatSure, a decision intelligence company based in Bangalore (India) and St. Gallen (Switzerland), which has been working with the state agriculture departments, banks, and insurance companies in India since 2017, has launched two new patent-pending data products after rigorous testing and expert validation to address the challenges around soil moisture and crop monitoring at scale. The farm-level Soil Moisture and the “India Cropland Data Layer” datasets shall be available on its data platform SatSure Sparta exclusively from 15th July 2021 for visualizations, download and API based consumption, along with its freemium datasets on vegetation, land, water change detection and climate data categories.

SatSure’s founder and CEO, Prateep Basu said, “At SatSure, we believe in innovating as per the market’s needs rather than pushing technology to the market. While there are other soil moisture products offered by a few firms globally, what we have done is created a high spatial resolution daily soil moisture product using a combination of publicly available satellites, which is unique and as good as having an IoT device on every farm.”

Rashmit Singh Sukhmani, co-founder and CTO of SatSure, added, “Both the products bring forth our team’s expertise in satellite data analytics and AI/ML. Just like SatSure Cygnus, where we are providing high-frequency optical satellite data by overcoming the visibility issues of cloud cover, especially during the monsoon season, through the India Cropland data layer, we are addressing another critical issue of satellite-based crop monitoring, and it is an essential data input for remote sensing and GIS analysts who perform crop classification using satellite images. Trained with more than half a million annotated datasets across different states, it significantly enhances crop classification accuracy, and it has been built using three years of openly available Sentinel-2 imagery from the European Space Agency.”

SatSure Cygnus – Rapid Revisit Virtual Satellite Constellation

SatSure, a decision intelligence startup based in Bangalore (India) and St. Gallen (Switzerland), has launched its synthetic geospatial insights platform, “SatSure Cygnus” for high-frequency vegetation monitoring applications. Using powerful deep learning methods and SatSure’s proprietary image processing technology, Cygnus is able to leverage publicly available satellite assets to provide synthetic insights and analysis built over optical, microwave, and multi-spectral satellite imagery at 10 metres spatial resolution an up to thrice a week revisit rate.

Despite there being more than 300 active Earth-imaging satellites, there still exist several challenges around the affordability, revisit time, and visibility of satellite imagery, especially in the tropics. As a company focused on leveraging satellites for delivering decision intelligence solutions, SatSure is addressing this problem statement through its proprietary SatSure Cygnus platform.

SatSure Cygnus, which will be commercially available as an API through the SatSure Sparta platform early next year, allows users to access synthetic insights in the visible and infrared bands generated by it. Its advantage lies in its ability to not only mitigate problems involving costs and revisit time that is conventionally associated with satellite data but also ensure accuracy of the synthetic insights on vegetation monitoring by employing proprietary technologies across a range of domains from satellite data to cloud computing and deep learning, developed by SatSure’s R&D teams.

SatSure’s co-founder and CEO, Prateep Basu announced this disruptive innovation at the World Economic Forum’s recent Pioneers of Change Summit. He said, “With the current business and technology climate improving the case for space sustainability and optimal cost management, SatSure Cygnus is a pioneering and innovative technology that can enhance the functionality of existing satellite data and improving their application for solving critical challenges related to food, environment and livelihood.”

Rashmit Singh Sukhmani, co-founder and CTO of SatSure added, “SatSure Cygnus enabled a great opportunity for us to combine our significant expertise in satellite data with our established work in artificial intelligence, machine learning and cloud platforms to solve a number of problems associated with satellite technology, ranging from space debris to costs and less than optimal revisit time. Our mandate has always been to not only roll out smart products but also to solve fundamental human problems and we believe SatSure Cygnus represents the best of that thinking.”
