With South Africa’s National Team Trials, to be held on 25 March 2023, quickly approaching, excitement among Registered Players is reaching an all time high.

It is  thus welcome news that International Esports Federation (IESF) has just informed Mind Sports South Africa of the number of slots for Africa for IESF’s 15th World Esports Championships (WEC 23′) to be held in August in Iasi, Romania.

The slot distribution for WEC 23′ is divided per registered country per continent, and we would like to inform you that Africa acquired a total number of 13 out of the 82 slots for the following games:

  • CSGO – 3
  • Dota 2 – 2
  • Mobile Legends Bang Bang – 3
  • PUBG Mobile – 3
  • CSGO Female – 2

IESF has also advised MSSA that all African National Federations that have registered athletes for Tekken and Efootbal get a direct slot.

Thus with MSSA having so registered for both Tekken and Efootball, the Registered Player selected by MSSA at its National Team titles for these two esports titles will go straight through to lovely Iasi and not have to fight it out in an African regional Qualifier.

The last chance for athletes to qualify for National Team Trials is:

  • 2023 Gauteng Online Championships to be held on 11 March 2023.

All those entering National Team Trials are again reminded to have valid passports on the date of such National Team Trials.

New partnership to boost penetration of supplier’s product in growing markets

SIS (Sports Information Services), the leading multi-channel supplier of 24/7 live betting services, has partnered with Kiron Interactive to develop an all-new bespoke 24/7 channel to deliver a select mix of both companies’ market-leading Numbers products across Africa.

The agreement will see SIS collaborate with the established global technology and software company, leveraging its expertise and insight across the many burgeoning markets in the continent to deliver the channel tailored for African markets, expanding the profile of both companies’ high-quality, enhanced Numbers content.

African operators and players will have greater access to SIS’ world-famous 49’s Original Live Draw, alongside the new high-margin 39’s draw that features high-frequency, live draws every five minutes. The company’s numbers content is already hugely popular with bettors across Africa, who enjoy the opportunity to win big from small stakes.

This agreement is the latest in a string of similar commercial announcements in Africa for SIS, highlighting the growing demand for its 24/7 live betting offering and strengthening its presence across the potential-rich regulated markets.

Joe Andrews, Head of Sales for Africa at SIS, said: “Having the right partners in regions with a disparate makeup such as in Africa is essential to ensuring we continue growing our brand and products there.

“Kiron’s heritage across the continent provides us with a hugely valuable advantage in developing and launching this new channel, which will be a significant boost to our commercial ambitions in the region.

“Our content is renowned for driving incremental revenue as the high-frequency, 24/7 nature of our Numbers games is popular among African bettors.”

Steven Spartinos, Co-CEO of Kiron Interactive, said: “As we continue to expand the reach of Kiron and broaden the scope of the services we offer and the number of partners we work with, collaborating with a leading brand such as SIS is key.

“While we operate globally, Africa is where our roots lie, and as such, we offer unrivalled insight into the many diverse markets here. We’re delighted to work with SIS and look forward to working together to bring the combination of our respective revenue-boosting content to an even wider audience.”

B2B provider of live games TVBET acquired a certificate of suitability in the province of the Western Cape, South Africa.  It has also undergone integration into the Bitville Iframe Solution and has passed BMM testing for all nine provinces in South Africa.  TVBET is a live Games provider and is, therefore, able to render its live lottery and numbers games in all of South Africa’s jurisdictions.

TVBET is ecstatic to bring fresh content to SA and in doing so extending its footprint into South Africa. Bitville Gaming is a well-established B2B Igaming Platform, Aggregated Products, Bespoke Lottery and custom software solutions company.

Emily Asava, TVBET Business Development Manager in Africa, states: “TVBET continues its cooperation with Bitville Gaming, and we are happy to reach new achievements within our partnership. Getting the license by WCGRB confirms our straight decision to expand in Africa and deliver our products to new markets in the region. And we’re happy to do that together with Bitville Gaming.”

Bitville Gaming CEO Andrew Von Hoesslin says: “It’s exciting to have the opportunity to work for Bitville Gaming South Africa, a company that is dedicated to keeping content relevant and fresh. The Company prides itself on being a Level II BBBEE manufacturer in SA; in addition, we are striving to keep the online and retail products fresh and new, so we don’t find ourselves in a space where the one market cannibalises the other and TVBET is one of those products that effectively helps secure this.  If we don’t ensure that we preserve our land-based betting shops and keep them financially profitable by bringing exciting retail content, it will have a negative impact on the economy in South Africa. TVBET has wonderful retail and online content, so you could say it’s the best of both worlds.”

Liberia: Rep. Kolubah Wants Betting Legislated

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Montserrado County District#10 Representative, Yekeh Kolubah, said he will shortly introduce a bill in the Legislature to legalise sports betting in the country.

Representative Kolubah made the disclosure on October 12 when he was seen cutting tickets at one of Winners Incorporated sales centres in his district on Old Road.

The opposition lawmaker, who is on annual break, was spotted placing his drill, ahead of the crucial UEFA Champions’ League group stage round three matches.

According to him, the bill will seek to regulate gambling in Liberia by legalising every aspect of the market, noting that would be nice for the country that is already struggling in poverty under the George Weah administration.

Thousands of unemployed youths across the country have gravitated to sports gambling, which has attracted several international sports betting companies to set up shops in Liberia.

They gather at these betting parlours to gamble on televised soccer matches. Some say it is a good source of income and occupation, but others are not so sure.

In Liberia, sports betting has become a real job opportunity for young people, who converge daily at various betting parlours in Monrovia, including Winner’s Incorporated, DOXXBET, and BETTOMAX Liberia, among others to watch soccer matches on flat-screen televisions via satellite, placing their bets and waiting for the results.

Few youths at a gaming centre in Monrovia said that sports betting for them have become the only option since, in fact, they are jobless and without any source of income.

Winner’s Incorporated marketing manager, Randall Kaybee, said sports betting is “transforming lives of Liberians” for just a few Liberian dollars per bet.

“As you just enter my office, you can see from this evidence. This is a ticket. Somebody bet 50 LRD and won 233,275 Liberian dollars,” Kaybee said.

South Africa Gambling Industry Report 2022: Current State of the Industry – Casinos and Online Gambling, Limited Payout Machines, Horse Racing and Sports Betting & the Lottery

Reading Time: 4 minutes

The “The South African Gambling Industry 2022” report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets .com’s offering.

This report focuses on the gambling industry and includes information on the state of the industry including casinos and online gambling, limited payout machines, horse racing and sports betting and the lottery. It includes information on influencing factors such as regulation, major players and developments.

There are profiles of 23 companies such as major players in casinos Tsogo Sun Holdings, Sun International and Peermont Global, horse racing operators 4Racing and Gold Circle, lottery operator Ithuba and sports and online betting companies such as Netbet (Sportingbet) and various gambling boards and regulators.

The Gambling Industry in South Africa

The gambling industry is recovering from the loss of business during the pandemic when casinos and bars were shut. However, industry sources say casino and bingo revenues are still below pre-pandemic levels, with the rebound being driven by betting and limited payout machines. The effects of the lockdown resulted in a shift in market share, largely to online betting.

This trend is expected to continue, as the steady decline in the revenue market share of casinos has been going on for years. New products and the borderless online environment bring direct competition to traditional gambling establishments and deprive the country of licensing and tax revenue.

Trends

Some of the most popular forms of gambling in South Africa include casino betting, sports betting, and bingo. The industry is growing despite the poor economy, driven by online and sports betting. Illegal online gambling is difficult to monitor and regulate.

The popularity of horse racing has been declining in recent years in favour of sports betting. South Africa’s sports betting sector centres around rugby, soccer, cricket, and horse racing. Bets can also be placed on the top US sports leagues.
