AFC extends and expands partnership with Sportradar

Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has today signed a new agreement with sports data company Sportradar for an historic partnership in the field of integrity, specifically addressing match-fixing.

Sportradar’s Intelligence and Investigation Services will now be engaged with the AFC from the 2018 and 2019 seasons to investigate those behind fraud on the pitch in Asia. This comes after all matches in the top two leagues and cups in the AFC Member Associations, as well as in AFC competitions, will be monitored for betting patterns as part of an existing agreement between the AFC, Sportradar and FIFA.

AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, who joined Sportradar Chief Executive Carsten Koerl at the signing, said: “In the AFC Vision and Mission, the fight against match-fixing is imperative and remains ongoing. We, at the AFC, take this threat extremely seriously and our actions during recent years demonstrate our zero-tolerance stance. But we also appreciate that times are changing, and technology is needed to combat this ever-growing threat. PAGCOR SCORES 99.46% IN GCG 2022 PERFORMANCE EVALUATION SYSTEM

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) recently received formal recognition from the Governance Commission for GOCCs or GCG for achieving a score of 99.46% in its annual Performance Evaluation System (PES) for 2022.

The score is one of the highest in the history of PAGCOR and was achieved on the first year under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco, who was appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in August 2022.

PAGCOR’s score in the 2021 PES was 98.08%, while in 2020 it was 91.38%.

The award for 2022 was received by PAGCOR President and COO Atty. Juanito L. Sañosa during the inaugural GOCC Governance Awards Ceremony on November 20, 2023 at the PICC Complex in Pasay City.

Atty. Sañosa said the award elevated PAGCOR to the ranks of the best performing GOCCs in the country.

“This is truly another proud moment for PAGCOR. While this award serves as a validation of our efforts and hard work, it also inspires us to continuously exceed our past accomplishments – all in the service of our country,” he said.

The PES award is a recognition of the unwavering dedication to the highest standards of accountability and efficiency among government-owned and controlled corporations.

In the GCG report, PAGCOR garnered perfect scores in the following categories: Increased Contribution to National Government Coffers and Nation-Building Efforts; Increased Gross Gaming Revenue of the Industry; and Increased Revenue of PAGCOR; among others.

In his keynote speech during the awards ceremony, Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin said GOOCs contributed Php48.68 billion in dividends in 2022, funding some of the most vital government socio-civic projects such as infrastructure, health, education, and others.

“It is beyond question that GOCCs are significant tools in adjuring inclusive economic growth and development for 2022. The Bureau of Treasury recorded Php48.68 billion dividends coming from different GOCCs that are covered under Republic Act 10149,” Bersamin noted.

In a statement, GCG Commissioner Atty. Brian Keith F. Hosaka encouraged all GOCCs to work closely together in making the GOCC sector a prime driver in delivering effective and efficient progress for Filipinos.

Aside from PAGCOR, twelve other GOCCs received awards for achieving the highest Corporate Governance Scorecard (CGS) ratings in 2022 while three bagged the CGS Hall of Fame.

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCor)’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program has received recognition from the Department of Justice (DOJ) for achieving a high mediation success rate.

The recognition makes PAGCOR and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines the only government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) to have earned such accreditation from the DOJ.

During the recognition ceremony held today, November 22, 2023, at the PAGCor Executive Office at New Coast Manila, DOJ Undersecretary Atty. Irene de Torres-Alogoc said they were impressed by the high success rate of PAGCor’s mediation program.

“We were surprised by PAGCor’s high success rate,” said Torres-Alogoc. “We hope to have more (success) because when there are disputes in an agency, it is hard to work. It affects the productivity of the office itself.”

In its certificate of recognition, the DOJ’s Office for Alternative Dispute Resolution (OADR) said PAGCor has effectively ‘complied with the requirements set forth under the OADR Accreditation Guidelines for Alternative Dispute Resolution Organizations and Training Standards for Alternative Dispute Resolution Practitioners in the field of Mediation’.”

The gaming agency’s accreditation will be valid until 2024.

PAGCor’s Public Alternative Dispute Resolution Program was formed in compliance with Republic Act 9285, also known as the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act of 2004, and Executive Order No. 97, s. 2012, which mandates government agencies to establish a system to resolve disputes filed before them.

The program aims to mitigate and avoid animosity between or among PAGCor personnel and other parties that, if not properly addressed, may result in the elevation of the disputes to the courts.

Some of the most common cases being mediated under the program are alimony, spousal and child support, non-payment of just debts, among others.

Southeast Asia’s youngest country is progressing towards becoming the newest hub for licensing and professional support services for the global iGaming industry.

This important development for the country will see the establishment and incorporation of the Virtual Gaming Association (VGA) of Timor-Leste to create a policy of best practices for the licensing and regulation of iGaming in the country.

Partners involved in the implementation of this process are currently in Malta at the SiGMA tradeshow to meet with global gaming operators and receive industry feedback that will influence the definition of this sector’s policies in Timor-Leste and help set up the country as an iGaming-friendly global licensing jurisdiction.

Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Indonesia, HE Filomeno Alexio shared the stage at the Malta Experts Insight summit today along with Antonio Sampaio of Capital S, Richard Leather of TheRegulationService and Patrice Rodrigue of Angular Legal to address questions about this new jurisdiction.

That panel was preceded by an introduction from Timor-Leste’s President and Nobel Laureate Jose Ramos-Horta, who addressed the audience via an eight-minute video highlighting his country and its unique position in Asia.

Timor-Leste’s potential, with two thirds of its entire population under 30, will open significant opportunities for the creation of call centres, data centres and the development of a luxury resort and casino.

The Virtual Gaming Association of Timor-Leste is the trade association for the iGaming industry in Timor-Leste. It is currently focused on consultation from the industry, via its membership, to develop best practices for Timor-Leste ‘s iGaming regulation. The consortium was awarded the third Sports Lottery License issued by the Taiwan Government’s Sports Administration in December 2022.

ORAKO, the Company’s end-to-end sportsbook and player account management solution, will be fully implemented across more than 2,600 retail outlets in Taiwan as well as across web and mobile channels as it is designed to scale for omnichannel use.  Sportradar’s technology will power the Lottery with ORAKO Sports Betting and Player Management platform, Managed Trading Services, Pre-match and Live data and odds, Audiovisual streaming, Marketing services and other Sportradar ORAKO solution integrated services. The solution includes the delivery of the required equipment at retail stores including customized lottery terminals and printers, and digital multimedia displays to provide live sports and betting information.

As part of the agreement, Sportradar also established a local team in Taipei to provide operational support and expertise alongside TSLC’s team members on the ground.
