Karen Carney to Support TalkBanStop Campaign

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The UEFA European Football Championship (Euros) kicks off today. As football being one of the most bet-on sports in the UK, online betting opportunities will be ramping up. So, gambling support charities GamCare, Gamban and GAMSTOP have relaunched their TalkBanStop campaign.

GamCare, which operates the National Gambling Helpline reveals that during and post major sporting events there is an increase in calls to the helpline. GamCare has also found that many women gamblers are not seeking support.

The TalkBanStop campaign brings together the three gambling support charities who together offer a combination of free tools to block access to gambling websites, to self-exclude from gambling accounts alongside support that will help those worried about their gambling to take back control.

The new campaign is being supported by former England footballer Karen Carney. Carney is aiming to generate conversation around the impact of gambling and encourage people to seek help through TalkBanStop.

Carney is aware of the prominence of gambling around football in particular and has seen first-hand the challenges that many women are facing. Women are more likely to hide their gambling from their significant others and are more likely to feel stigma and shame acutely, if they have gambling issues.

Karen Carney said: “Campaigns like TalkBanStop are so important in raising awareness of the free resources available to everyone out there, particularly women who have battled with gambling around sport. Ahead of the upcoming Euros, it is important we raise awareness of the support that is available.

“There is a stigma associated for women and challenges around speaking out and seeking help, so it’s key to highlight the link between gambling and sport to help these women and girls on their journey to recovery. The Euros are an exciting part of the global sporting calendar, but for some, it can prove to be a challenging time with heightened gambling opportunities as a result.”

Groupe Partouche GGR Declines 71.1% in Q2 2021

Reading Time: 2 minutes

French casino operator Groupe Partouche has published its consolidated turnover for the second quarter of 2021 (Feb 2021 – Apr 2021).

During the second quarter, all French casinos remained closed, under general measures taken by the Government to deal with the covid-19 pandemic. Abroad, the Ostend casino (Belgium) also remained closed. The Swiss casinos of Meyrin and Crans-Montana were able to welcome their customers again from April 19, without a curfew, but respecting health constraints. The Djerba (Tunisia) casino remained open but was forced to apply a curfew starting at 10 pm.

As a result, the GGR stood at €25.1 million, down 71.1% compared to the second quarter of 2020 which started with excellent momentum before seeing the number of operating days cut by half, with the closures linked to the first confinement starting in mid-March 2020. The GGR focused exclusively on foreign casinos and more specifically on Swiss online games and online games and betting in Belgium. Their overall GGR more than doubled to reach €23.9 million, an increase of 136.6%. Net gaming revenue (NGR) excluding levies fell by 52.8 % to €22.0 million. Overall, the second quarter turnover totalled €23.6 million, down by 58.4%.

The non-gaming activity generated a turnover of €1.6 million (84.4%) linked in particular to the opening of a few hotels housed in the Group’s casinos and the Aquabella hotel in Aix-en-Provence. At the end of April, the aggregated turnover over 6 months amounted to €47.2 million, down by 74.3%, with a 70.4% decrease in Net Gaming Revenue to €44.3 million.

“After a minimum of 201 days of closure, French casinos have been welcoming their customers again since Wednesday, 19th May. Only slot machines and electronic forms of table games were accessible with the constraint of a 9 pm curfew. Nevertheless, the resumption of activity was very satisfactory. As of this day, the table games can reopen and the curfew is pushed back to 11 p.m. Moreover, a health-pass is required in the establishments where the operator decides to welcome more than 1000 people,” Groupe Partouche said.

Budderfly Helps Outlaw Enterprises’ KFC and Taco Bell Franchises Offset Rising Supply Chain Costs With Energy-Efficiency-as-a-Service (EEaaS) Offering

Budderfly, the fastest-growing firm in the North American Energy-Efficiency-as-a-Service market, today announced Outlaw Enterprises, Inc. has selected its energy efficiency solutions to help reduce lighting costs and improve HVAC and refrigeration efficiency across 13 KFC, Taco Bell, and combination KFC/Taco Bell franchise restaurants located throughout South Carolina.

The organization was experiencing shrinking margins and profitability due to rising industry-related costs and sought to offset those increases by optimizing its lighting, cooling, and refrigeration equipment efficiency.

“The lighting and cooling equipment met our needs but it was not operating as efficiently as I wanted,” said Ashley Page, Director of Operations, Outlaw Enterprises. “Replacing the equipment with newer technology all at once was not an option due to high costs.” Page found his ideal solution in Budderfly’s no-cost energy efficiency upgrades.

Working with Budderfly, Outlaw Enterprises, Inc. began a pilot program in May 2021 with four KFCs and one KFC/Taco Bell location. The program included:

  • Converting all exterior, interior, and parking lot lighting to lower power LEDs
  • Adding advanced walk-in refrigeration controls for improved visibility and efficiency
  • Installing Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and react chips to improve HVAC operation
  • Installing smart thermostats to better regulate temperatures
  • Adding submetering IoT devices for advanced measurement and monitoring capabilities

Since the pilot program, Outlaw Enterprises has expanded its Budderfly relationship to include all remaining locations in the company’s franchise, converting all restaurants to LED lighting and upgrading many HVAC units to match those enhancements in the pilot program. For the remaining HVAC units, Budderfly will be upgrading those at the end of their useful life with new high-efficiency units—at no additional cost.

“Other energy efficiency companies approached us in the past. They identified our energy problems and asked us to pay for all of the technology cost upfront—with no guarantees it would save us what they quoted. To have Budderfly assume all the upgrade costs, keep their quoted promises, and immediately show cost-saving results was a very refreshing change to what I’ve seen from others,” added Page.

Outlaw Enterprises is located in Camden, South Carolina, and is part of YUM! Brand’s franchise of Quick-Service Restaurants (QSRs). In 1964 Johnny Outlaw Sr. became a KFC franchisee with one restaurant in Camden located at his Greyhound Bus station and expanded the franchise over the years. Ashley is the son-in-law of current franchisee Johnny Outlaw, Jr.; and for the last 10 years, under Ashley’s leadership, the franchise has grown through land acquisitions and two newly built restaurants. Today, Outlaw Enterprises Inc. operations include over a dozen KFC and Taco Bell locations.

“Many QSRs are struggling with rising costs due to increasing ingredient prices and supply chain issues,” said Al Subbloie, CEO, Budderfly. “Budderfly’s ability to assume all physical upgrade costs and recoup investments over time via a percentage of the monthly energy savings, allows our customers to instantly reduce operational costs helping to offset escalating prices in other areas.”

Budderfly’s EEaaS solution is also helping Outlaw Enterprises contribute to its parent company YUM! Brands’ initiative of balancing business growth with environmental sustainability.
